We are very happy to announce that ASERG has been successful in being awarded a 2-year Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with Cafeology Limited.

Carlos from ASERG meeting Toni Unkles, one of Cafeology directors.

A KTP is a three-way partnership between a business, an academic institution, and a graduate. KTP is a national programme that is part-funded by grants from Innovate UK. It is highly regarded by businesses as an effective R&D mechanism.

Cafeology, established in 2003, is an independently owned British company and leading ethical coffee roaster based in Sheffield, supplying predominantly the educational sector and premium establishments throughout the UK with ethically sourced beverages, dispensing equipment and ancillaries.

Under the academic supervision of Dr. Carlos da Silva, an Associate employed to lead the project will develop and deploy a new bespoke software system that automates, tracks and guides operators in the coffee roasting process, allowing Cafeology management to visualise the production in real-time, as well as supporting the scheduling of new roastings.

Automating the process will not only optimise the utilisation of highly skilled roasters within the company but also create local employment opportunities for individuals within the neurodiverse community, ensuring that Cafeology remains the leading ethical roaster in the UK.
